A bright and charming oil on canvas painting depicting the famous steel hulled four masted sailing barque 'Brilliant', launched in 1901, which together with her sister ship 'Daylight' was the largest 4 masted barque ever built. It is signed by H.Owens, probably a sailor as the the ship and in particular its rigging, is very exactly portrayed. The billowing seas, windswept cloudy skies and taut sails give a sense of alacrity and the wonderfully naive flock of birds in the ship's wake raise a smile. Signed and dated 1910, in antique maple frame.
